Thomas Marlin McWhorter

September 17, 1952 — October 4, 2024

Toledo

Thomas (Tom) Marlin McWhorter broke free from his earthly bonds and found the kind of freedom only a long time Harley loving Christian could. Born in Simi Valley, CA, in 1952, Tom was a true child of Texas, where he moved when he was 15.

After high school he joined the Army stationed in Germany. Tom joined the Van Austyn police department. He then went on to become a deputy in Comanche County and Chief Deputy in Erath County. Tom realized, in 1989, that traveling was his calling. He drove “against the wind” delivery goods across America for 35 years.

Tom loved old country, classic rock, and riding his Harley. Above all this, he loved his wife, Brenda-Swartzlander-McWhorter, his children Angie, T.J., and Shannon, and spending time with his family and best friend of 50 years, Mike Lang. His greatest passion was music, guitar picking, and writing songs. You could find him often with a group of people sitting around a fire listening to the songs and music he created.

Tom could fix anything and build anything with a vision only he could see. A great man, Tom had a heart as big as his beloved Texas and would give anyone the shirt off his back (granted while letting you know how you should have done it right in the first place) A larger than life man, with a laugh that came easy, and a story for any occasion.

He met Brenda in April of 2015 he moved to Ohio where their days on the bike and the adventures they had were the best yet. Their love story may have been cut short, but it was filled with the kind of love and joy that could only be rivaled by eternity.

Thomas Marlin McWhorter was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin Walton McWhorter and Evangeline Rochelle McWhorter, his son, Thomas (T.J.) Marlin McWhorter Jr., Granddaughter Hannah Sue McWhorter, and siblings Jim McWhorter, Rose (Toots) Mary McWhorter, Johnny McWhorter, and Cindy McWhorter. He is survived by his adoring wife Brenda, his daughters Evangeline (Angie) and Shannon, his beloved sister Lela Khan and his best friend Mike Lang, along with his 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
