Shirley Joyce Hallenbeck, age 98, passed away on March 8, 2022 at The Good Shepherd in Ashland, Ohio. Shirley was born in Gloversville, New York on April 29, 1923 as the second of three daughters to Elmer (1896 – 1969) and Maude (Groff) Loveday (1900 – 1954). The Loveday family lived in St. Paul, MN for two years in the early 1930’s. Otherwise, Shirley spent her entire childhood and adolescence growing up in Gloversville. After graduating from Gloversville High School in 1940, Shirley began nurses training at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Shirley became a Registered Nurse in 1943 and continued to serve at Nathan Littauer Hospital. In 1945, she moved to New York City, working at St. Luke’s Hospital. Shirley married Wayne J. Hallenbeck in 1949 and started a family. The Hallenbeck family lived in the New Haven, CT area (Branford and Guilford) between 1953 and 1960, with Shirley occasionally working as a private duty nurse. In 1960, the Hallenbeck family moved to Mansfield, OH. In 1967, with her youngest child in 3rd grade, Shirley began a new career in real estate sales. She worked for Malvene Banks, then Tom Mattox & Company, and then Perry Harris & Associates until 1976 when Shirley started her own brokerage firm, Hallenbeck Realty. Shirley’s company served real estate customers in the Mansfield area until 2001. Beginning in 1982, Shirley’s passion was traveling to Europe, including numerous trips to England, Scotland, and Ireland. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by: two sisters, Alice (Norman) Sutton (1921 – 1995) and Joan (Richard) Silvernail (1927 – 2011); her husband, Wayne Hallenbeck (1925 – 2010); and her grandson, Michael Hallenbeck (1994 – 2015). Shirley is survived by: two sons, Wayne (Lisa) Hallenbeck, Jr. of Worthington, OH, and Kirby (Toni) Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs, CA; one daughter, Dr. Susan (William Holland) Hallenbeck of Port St. Lucie, FL; one granddaughter, Jessica (Seth) Janssen of Citrus Heights, CA; and two great-grandsons.
