Shirley A. Culbertson Friend

Shirley A. Culbertson Friend, a woman whose laughter was as infectious as her spirit was indomitable, passed away on December 30, 2023, at the age of 78. She was born on December 18, 1945, in Lancaster, Ohio, to Theodore and Ida (Miller) Culbertson. She lived a life filled with humor, warmth, and a touch of sass.

Shirley was the heart and soul of her family, including her beloved Melvin Bowersock, her sons Terry (Sharon) Friend, and Ryan Bowersock; granddaughter Ashley (Devon) Boch; great grandkids, Jaxon and Roman Boch; sisters-in-law Renae Culbertson, Mary Ann Culbertson, Ginny (Winsell) Murphy and June Morgan; as well as many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, and the Love of her life, Mel, she is preceded in death by sisters Norma Eveland, Pauline English, and Kate Cordle; brothers Kenny, Larry, Lester and Gerald Culbertson.

Before she became a full-time matriarch and the world's most devoted stay-at-home grandma, Shirley retired from Amanda Bent Bolt and served up smiles as a bartender, where her one-liners were as strong as her drinks. Shirley was a part of a pool league and enjoyed bowling, but Bingo halls were her main domain, where she dabbed her way into everyone's hearts.

Caring Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will happen at a later date followed by burial at West Rushville Cemetary.
