Russell “Sandy” McCauley, age 78, of Minerva passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife Carolee (Lynch); parents Mildred and Everette McCauley; brother Tom and son Mark McCauley. Sandy is survived by his loving daughter Denise (Rob) Walker; son Robert (Ashley) McCauley; grandchildren Alec and Mason Gastesi; Peyton McCauley; step-grandchildren Mathew and Katie Walker; beloved relative Maureen Cormack; loyal dog Riley; and many siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. Sandy will be missed for his kind heart, wonderful sense of humor and love of dad jokes. In his spare time, he was a Rotarian and, enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, hunting, and fishing. Sandy graduated from Timkin High School, served in the Army, and attended Kent State University. His career in journalism began at the Canton Repository working there for years as a paperboy, photographer, city council reporter, and assistant editor. His career continued in central Ohio as editor at the Newark Advocate, and publisher at the Coshocton Tribune and Lancaster Eagle Gazette. His retirement jobs at Kishman’s IGA and Lowes brought him joy while he spread joy to coworkers, shoppers and entertained children with tricks and jokes. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 515 E. Line St., Minerva, OH 44657 at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandy’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Food Bank.
