Richard D. Snider, 60, earned his angel wings Monday, July 24*, 2023. He was born and grew up in Lancaster Ohio and was a graduate of Lancaster High School. A retired salvage yard owner and truck driver, in his younger years he was an outstanding derby driver who very rarely walked away from a derby without placing. His style and dedication for the sport were well known in the local derby community. It was common knowledge that if Doug was driving, the other drivers would have their hands full. He did love to derby!
A member of the Fairfield Fish & Game since childhood, Doug could usually be found on his camper deck, riding the back trails on the golf cart, or looking for some tree cutting or other chore that needed taken care of. He was a very quiet and caring man who was always looking for ways to help-his kids, his club, a neighbor in need. Doug was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Baltimore, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, sons James and Shane (Brandi) Snider, bonus children Charley and Joshua (Brittany) McDill, Maggie (Patrick) Beerman and Lauren (Evan) Schaffner. He is also survived by his mother, Norma Asher, two brothers Tim (Wendy) and Ernie Snider, sister in law Shirley Hartman and brother in law Larry (Barb) Bitler, 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, countless friends and his beloved furbabies Jed, Mollie, Ellie, Max and Spencer.
Doug was a very special breed of man, one you don't see every day. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and a very "old fashioned way" of looking at the world-where men worked hard, loved their family and were respectful, honest and straight-shooting.
According to his wishes, there will be no formal calling hours. An open Celebration of Life will be held at the Fairfield Fish and Game, 2270 Bickel Church Road NW, Baltimore, Ohio, on August 26*, 2023, at 2 p.m. The family would love to reminisce with anyone who is able to attend and honor this man who will be missed by so very many.
Contributions can be made in Doug's name to the Fairfield Fish & Game, Trinity United Church of Christ, The Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
