Phyllis Jean Shaffer

Phyllis Jean (Moats) Shaffer, 89, of Newark, Ohio, passed away on December 13, 2024. 

She was born in Springfield, Ohio, on December 5, 1935, and was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Strawsburg) Moats. 

Phyllis retired from Meijer in Springfield, Ohio, in 2013, where she worked as a cashier. She also worked as the manager of the Hot Sam’s Pretzel shop in Springfield’s Upper Valley Mall for many years. Phyllis loved her family above all else and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. 

She was preceded in death by four of her brothers and sisters, Grace (Moats) Corbet, George Moats Jr, Judith (Moats) Rust, and Larry Jaudon. 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Brenda (Shaffer) and Rick Myers, granddaughters Leigh Anne (Myers) Hottinger and Linley (Myers) Wallace, great granddaughters Brielle, Sienna, and Charlotte, sisters Sandy (Jaudon) Patton and Karen (Jaudon) Hursh, and three generations of nieces and nephews. 

The family will have a celebration of her life at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phyllis’s memory to Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark, Ohio.
