Patricia Ann Aponte

Patricia Ann Aponte, affectionately known as Patti, was born on July 02, 1950, to Nicholas and Alona Merriman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the age of 74, in Columbus, Ohio, where she spent the last months of her life surrounded by her Son, Son-in-law, and Grandson. Patti's educational journey began at Assumption BVM Catholic school, and she continued to pursue her studies at William Penn High School, graduating in the '60s. Patti was good at taxes, and this was a testament to her unwavering dedication and love for learning, qualities that defined her life.

Patti was a woman of many admirable qualities. Her quick wit, infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit were the hallmarks of her personality. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, going out of her way to assist others, a trait that endeared her to many.

During the early 1970s, Patti fell madly in Love with Paul Charles Scarbrough (1942-1975) and gave birth to her only child, Paul-Nicholas Aponte, who later became Nicholas Alexander Scarbrough in 2014.

If Patti wasn't working, you could find her going to the Casino or taking trips to Vegas with her late Friend, Barbara Hankins, whom she considered a sister.

Patti had a deep love for music and entertainment. She was a fan of Elvis and various Country Artists, such as Crystal Gale, Kenny Rogers, Conway Twitty, and Randy Travis. She also enjoyed Doo-wop and attended Wildwood shows for the past few years. Her love for music and entertainment reflected her vibrant and joyful spirit.

Patti's love extended beyond her hobbies and interests. She cherished her friendships, maintaining connections with many from childhood until her passing. Her love for people was a testament to her warm and caring nature. She was a true Philly girl, proud of her roots and the relationships she built.

Patti was preceded in death by her Father and Mother ( Nicholas and Alona). She is survived by her only son, Nicholas, and son-in-law, Steven, as well as her Sisters, Alona, Margaret, and Mary Jane. She had three grandchildren, Quinton, Alexis, and Courtney Scarbrough, and five great-grandchildren: A’zuri, Zoey, August, Du’mier, and Wanya. She also had a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a good woman and Mother who always tried to keep it real with everyone. Throughout the years, she provided a lot of good laughs and moments, especially watching her dance, which we affectionately called the PAT.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Patti will be cremated, and further information will be announced at a later date.
