Mitchell B. Wafer Jr.

December 27, 1947 — June 20, 2022

On December 27, 1947 Mitchell B. Wafer Jr. was born in Dayton, Ohio and was the first of two children to SGT. Mitchell B. Wafer Sr. and Laura Green Wafer. As a child Mitchell traveled the world with his parents and younger brother, living in Germany, Italy, and Spain. Mitchell briefly attended college and in 1966 he enlisted into the United States Army and actively served in the Vietnam War. After his military service he returned to Ohio and worked as a geological engineer with the Ohio Department of Transportation for more than 20 years and retired. Mitchell loved to hang out with friends and his brothers at the Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Fraternal Order, Olentangy Lodge #521. Mitchell prided himself on being the best dressed “cat” in the room and 99% of the time he was. Wearing his tailored suits, hats, and shoes to match, he no doubt had style and swagger that surpassed most. His grandson’s referred to him as “The Real OG.” In his youth he loved the lacs, the ladies, and the liquor and sometimes that did not come without a bit of trouble, but Mitch (Cookie to some) could handle trouble like all real OG’s do. In 1988 Mitchell met his little, sweet, “Chattie”, Angela Butler. He teased her referring to her as “Chattie Cathy” because she looked like a precious baby doll and loved to talk. Angela graced Mitchell and the Wafer clan with lots of love. Welcoming all his children and grandchildren. They were married September 25, 2014. Mitchell unapologetically enjoyed and lived his life and without question until his last breath, he did things his way. One thing that Mitchell was most proud of was his children and grandchildren. Some of the relationships with his children were not what he hoped it to be, but he made certain that everyone knew he was a proud dad and paw paw and “like it or not” he ruled the roost. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Laura Wafer; his sister, Bernice Hubbard; and grandchildren, Kierra Harris and Damon Waddle. (Mothers of his children) Jacquelyn Eden Wafer and Denise Edwards. He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful wife, Angela Wafer; brother, Ronald (Linda) Wafer, of Homer, Louisiana; mother-in-law, Eva Butler; sister-in-Law, Esther (Lewis) Butler Drafton; brother-in-Law, James (Shelly) Butler; sister-in-law, Serena Roberts; and brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Jordan; his daughter, Verna Wafer (Chris) Humphrey, of Deer Park, Texas; his son, Kenyatta (Jessica)Thurston, of Los Vegas, Nevada; his daughter, Lisa Edwards, of Columbus, Ohio; his son, Larry Darnell Bloodsaw, of The Kingdom of Bahrain Western Asia; his daughter, Emily Michelle Bloodsaw, of Smith Station, Alabama; his daughter, Laura Wafer (Ashlee) Cowan, of Lexington, Kentucky; his daughter, Patricia Wafer, of Dayton, Ohio; his son, Christopher (Laree) McAbee, of Columbus, Ohio; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
