Michael “Farmer” Thompson of Logan, Ohio passed away after an extended battle with diabetes complications on November 30, 2022 at the age of 57.
Born July 9, 1965, in Nelsonville, Ohio, Michael was quickly given the nickname “Farmer” by his mother, Bonnie Johnston, due to his rather large newborn size. Rarely called Michael thereafter, Farmer graduated from Logan High School and Tri-County Career Center.
Growing up, Farmer enjoyed music, the outdoors and drawing. Farmer also had a passion for all things involving trains and railways.
Effectively blinded in his left eye as a teen, Farmer posthumously donated his good eye on the chance he could help others gain sight by organ donation.
Farmer was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Mary McGrath of Shawnee, Ohio and Paul and Helen Sayre of Florida, his father Jim Thompson, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Farmer leaves behind his devoted mother, Bonnie Johnston, whose exceptional care for Farmer provided years of comfort and love. He also leaves behind his sisters Mary Anderson of Centerville and Holly Johnston (Ben Cook) of Pataskala, nephews Jake Anderson (Emily), Drake Hook, Ben (Kristin) Cook, and Owen Cook, great niece Isabel Anderson, great nephew Brady Anderson and numerous family and friends.
Farmer’s family would like to thank the outstanding army of medical professionals who cared for him over the years, including the staff at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, DaVita Logan Dialysis, Mt. Carmel East, and the EMTs, Paramedics and Lifeflight crews.
Farmer appreciated the simple things in life and the love of his family. When asked, he always said “I’m glad to be alive.”
In lieu of flowers, please keep Farmer’s memory alive by spending time with your family or special friends. Tell them you love them.
