Mary Jane Lyons, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on February 11, 2023, at the age of 84


Mary Jane was born April 13, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Carl H. Weden and Hester A Cosier Weden.


Mary Jane met her husband William Earl Lyons in Fairfax, Virginia where she was a teacher. She attended Wittenberg University, University of Colorado Boulder before graduating from Youngstown State University on June 1, 1961, with a B.S. in Education. After graduation, she taught in Youngstown, Ohio, Fairfax, Virginia, and Columbus, Ohio.


Mary Jane was a devoted and loving mother and wife. She enjoyed sewing, classical music, playing the piano, traveling, theater and visiting her relatives. She and her husband traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe with emphasis on touring and staying at national and state parks. She particularly liked the Oregon coast.


Throughout her life, Mary Jane was a faithful Lutheran, participating in committees, activities, and outreach programs.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents Carl H. Weden and Hester A. Cosier Weden, brother William Carl. Weden and wife Charlotte, brother Carl Frederick Weden, nephew Paul Weden and nephew Mark Weden and brother-in-law Charles Edmond. Lyons.


Mary Jane is survived by her husband William Earl Lyons of Columbus, Ohio, daughter Elizabeth Jane Lyons of Gilbert, Arizona, sister-in-law Julia Louise Hartmann Weden of Fredericksburg, Texas, niece Cynthia A. Reich and husband Stephen C. Reich of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, , nephew Kent M. Weden and wife Teresa G of Loveland, Ohio, niece-in-law Jane Weden (widow of Mark Weden) of Ponte Verde Beach, Florida, nephew Michael Lawrence-Weden and wife Rebecca of Kirby, Texas, nephew Philip Carl Weden and wife Margie of Borger, Texas, nephew David Alan Weden and wife Barbara of Buda, Texas, and niece-in-law Audra Palmer Weden Locke (widow of Paul C Weden) of Jourdanton, Texas, nephew Brad Lyons and wife Beata of Plain City, Ohio, niece Christy Arends and husband Andy of Geneva, Illinois


A celebration of life will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church,1479 Morse Road, Columbus, OHIO 43229 (614) 262-7389 beginning 2:00 pm on Monday, Feburuary27, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in celebration of Mary Jane’s life may be made in memory of Mary Jane Lyons to Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229, or Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber Lifecare Fund, 9200 Worthington Road, Suite 300, Westerville, OH 43082.
