Marianna M. Costanza

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother (aka Grammie) on August 17, 2024, age 88. Marianna died peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Bellefonte, PA on November 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Hays and Marion Mattern. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College of Pennsylvania. Marianna thrived in her roles supporting early childhood education, as an elementary and pre-school teacher, and later working at Highlights for Children magazine. Her dedication to children left a lasting impact on many lives.

Marianna was a devoted mother to her two sons, Christopher and David, a close sister to Patricia Meixner, and a cherished grandmother to her two beloved granddaughters, Zoe and Thalia Costanza.

Marianna could and would make friends with anyone and everyone. She was an avid traveler, eager to explore new places, meet new people, and try new cuisines. She had a lifelong love of music, reading and swimming. She also had a deep love for her pets, repeatedly vowing that “this one” would be the last, only to soon thereafter adopt a new cat or dog that needed a loving home.

The family will hold a private event to remember Marianna. A public memorial service will be held at Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Clintonville on Thursday, September 26th at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association (LifeCare Alliance) in her memory.
