Larry L. McGrain, 67, of Urbana, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021. He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on June 24th 1954 to the late Arthur James Jr. and Helen Rita (VanTassel) McGrain. He is survived by his wife Debra Sue (Harris) McGrain, two children Michelle (Gary) Vincent of Hilliard, OH and Michael (Lina) McGrain of Weatherford, TX. 5 grandchildren Miles, Marley and Max McGrain and Aubrey and Aylse Vincent. He is also survived by a sister Linda (Doyle) Kirkland of Esto, FL, brothers Arthur J. III (Glenna) McGrain of Findlay, OH, Edward (Mary) McGrain of Findlay, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry loved sharing childhood memories of playing at his Grandma McGrains’ family farm, trips visiting family and fixing up several cars that were too fast for his own good. He graduated from North Baltimore High School in 1972, and went on to receive an Associate Degree in Applied Business from Owens Technical College where he met his wife. After marrying and having a daughter he returned to complete his Bachelor Degree in Commercial Science and Accounting from Tiffin University. The family moved to Urbana, Ohio in 1981 to work with WB Marvin Manufacturing Company. He was particular, methodical and loved to tinker with various equipment, parts and trouble shoot problems. He would frequently set up quality control experiments in his basement and was often referred to as being “indespensible.” He was not only honest, caring and driven with his work but also with the people he met, from the people on the production floor to the people he met on various ventures to Chicago and China. He was granted a patent (No.6,167,196) by the United Stated Patent and Trademark Office on December 26, 2000 for his work with Radiant Electric Heating Appliances. He would remain with the company for 23 years. After retirement Larry and his wife became owners and operators of Ivy Court Apartments. He loved to fix anything broken. He became certified in any skilled trade he could in order to continually improve what he could do on his own. He made as many improvements as he could and wanted them to be done to the highest standards. He genuinely cared about the residents and made certain all 42 units were taken care of; whether through conversation, shoveling snow or assuring they each had a gift during the holidays. He was a member of the Urbana Moose Lodge and served on numerous company Boards. He loved music and singing along to the likes of Taylor, Buffet and many more. His favorite past time for many years was golf. Over the years he befriended many through Woodland Golf Club and the Urbana Country Club where he had a hole-in-one. He loved playing cards, playing pool and begrudgingly being a fan of the Cleveland Browns. Larry was married to his wife for 46 busy years. He attended school concerts, recitals, games, was the t-ball coach, the Scouts helper and driver to countless band gigs. He made time for family vacations and recorded hours and hours of memories. As he loved his kids he loved his grandchildren. They were a big motivation for his continued strength and no matter what the day brought they would always bring a smile to his face. To honor Larry’s request there won’t be a funeral service, internment will be at a later date at Weaver Cemetery, Wood County, OH. The family would love to have you share any memories and/or pictures you might have on the Tribute Wall.
