Kristy Jane Dunbar, age 69, died June 26 in her home in Newark. She was born March 21, 1952 in Dover, to the late Charles and Margaret (Lentz) Dunbar. A 1970 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Kristy earned her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. Kristy was loved by many who will remember her for her smile, her infectious laugh, and her ability to tell great jokes and groaner puns. She loved adventures and travel, spending time with her friends in various parts of the country. She especially loved the beach. She was an avid reader who enjoyed watching movies, and playing cards, learning at a very early age by watching her parents play Jass not to trump her partner’s ace. Her dogs were the great loves of her life. It is guaranteed that her beloved dogs, Ruppy Dog, Kinsey, and Aggie, tails wagging, were eagerly waiting for her at The Rainbow Bridge. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark, she was a member of Chapel Bible Study, New-Ark Emmaus, and assisted with congregational communion. She is survived by her sister Ellen (Bruce) Webb of Dover, a niece Meredith Webb of Cleveland Heights, and numerous cousins. A memorial service celebrating Kristy’s life will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, July 20 at the First United Methodist Church, 88 N. 5th Street in Newark. The service will also be streamed on the church website: https://firstchurchnewark.org/. Cremation was provided by Leaf Cremations in Columbus. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newark, or a local humane society. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her church family for their extensive help and support during this difficult time.
