Johnny

May 19, 1932 — March 27, 2022

John (Johnny) Marion Gibbons passed away March 27th, 2022 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio, and gifted us goodbye in a brilliant blaze sunset that evening. Johnny was born May19th, 1932 in Columbus Ohio to the late William J. Gibbons and Shermania (Flesher) Gibbons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers William J. Gibbons ll, Thomas H. Gibbons, Michael K. Gibbons and nephew William J Gibbons lll. He graduated from Central High School and tho he never married, became an active volunteer for the Franklin Boys Village in the 50’s and was a Boy Scout leader in East Columbus in the 60’s. Johnny retired from Timken Roller Bearing, and in 1969, the family moved to the cottage they ‘all’ built in the 40’s on Shell Beach of Buckeye Lake. Johnnys hobbies were broad in that he loved anything BuckeyeLake, woodworking, remodeling, sewing, cooking (especially hog roasts and the beverages that go with) so many many things interested him , too numerous to count. He cared for his parents in the home ; his dad in his final days and Mother with Alzheimer’s. He did that all with love, kindness and his never ending sense of humor, which will be missed by all. He was a giver, helping strangers and neighbors alike. His most favorite role was Santa which he spread all over The Lake. Surviving family members, sister, Linda Gibbons Whetstone of Thornville, and even tho he was ‘just an uncle’ , he was more like a fun Dad and happier Grandpa to these surviving nieces and nephews: Thomas (Joyce) Gibbons of New Smyrna Beach, Fla, Kelly Gibbons of Columbus, Michelle ((Scott) Smith of Urbana Ohio, Philip Whetstone of Thornville and Stephen (Trisha) Whetstone of Pickerington Oh, Six great nieces and nephews and five great great nieces and nephews. And Gilbert, his beloved cat buddy. Our family would like to thank the staff of Fairfield Medical for their kindness and care. And all his new family at Altercare of Thornville, where he met new friends to love and laugh with. A celebration of life will be held in warmer months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his honor.
