Jimmie Chanault Collyer, age 68, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, passed away on November 2, 2020, in his home of natural causes. He was born on Valentine’s Day in Bucyrus, Ohio, and was the son of Charles Chanault and Julia Ann (Sullivan) Collyer. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Charles (Chuck) Orewiler. Jimmie proudly served as a Military Police Officer for the United States Army in Karlsruhe, Germany from 1971 to 1973 and then in the United State Army Reserves until 1975. He was very patriotic and flew the stars and stripes in every place he lived. Jimmie knew no strangers and was a friend to all. He would drop everything to help anyone in need whenever he could. He was kind, generous, and a creative storyteller known for his funny jokes, sense of humor, and sweet tooth. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, just about anything outdoors, and was quite adventurous (have you ever spent time held in Colombia?). He passed his love of the outdoors, history and adventure down to his children and grandchildren. He spent countless summers enjoying the shores of Lake Erie and his last years at Hidden Lakes campground. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Jimmie is survived by his daughters, Traci (Collyer) Danek (Jay) of Arizona and Jennifer (Collyer) Hansen of Washington; his son Charlie Collyer of Arizona; his grandchildren Susan, Cassidy, Samantha, Petra, and Patrick; his sisters Peggy (Collyer) Simmons, Ruby (Collyer) Laughbaum, Patsy (Collyer) Stewart, and Renee (Collyer) Bell; along with several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, his children would love you to consider making a donation to Team RWB which is an organization dedicated to helping active duty service members transition out of the military and into healthy, thriving, connected community members through physical and social activity. Please visit teamrwb.org for more information. His children and family would like to thank, Rose and Bruce Bingham, for their generosity, friendship, and care over the last 9 years. As we celebrate this life, we encourage everyone to live with purpose. ‘The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for a newer and richer experience. – Eleanor Roosevelt
