Jerry Allen Shaver

December 11, 1951 — April 7, 2020

Jerry Allen Shaver, 68, of Cambridge Ohio passed away on April 7th, 2020. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, son of the late Forrest Thurman Shaver and Donna Jeanette Shaver (nee Wilson), both of whom preceded him in death. Jerry ('Jer' or 'Jer-Bear' to friends and loved ones) was a graduate of Meadowbrook High School and went on to achieve a Computer Technology Degree at Muskingum Technical College. He was an avid gamer, enjoying a variety of PC games as well as board games with friends, Dungeons & Dragons and Catchphrase, just to name a few....as well as a passion for puzzles of all kinds. He also was a highly skilled craftsman, creating beautiful cross-stitch pieces as well as knitting and crochet. He was a pianist of considerable talent who could play many classical pieces from memory. Jerry was a former award-winning stage performer with Cambridge Performing Arts Center, where he had also served on their Board of Directors. Jerry was retired from CVS Pharmacy in Cambridge, where he worked for many years; he was well-loved by customers and coworkers for his warmth, competence, and wit. Upon retirement, he became highly motivated by his staunch support of progressive politics and social justice and spoke out in his customary manner; kind, firm, well informed, and respectful of others.  Jerry was a deeply beloved friend and a fatherly figure to many who sought him out for advice or comforting words or even a hug. He could be mischievous and very funny....and loving. He was cherished and will be forever missed. Jerry A. Shaver is survived by his beloved friend, spouse, and 'Co-Star' of 30 unforgettable years, C. Bruce Ryan of the home. Also survived by "His Favorite Sister" Jeanette King and her husband, Frank King, who Jer often referred to as 'a decent man' who he trusted to love his only sister.  He is also survived by Jeanette and Frank's wonderful children and grandchildren:  Jason D. King, Rhonda J. Cree (fiancee Michael Krugel) and children Justin, Dylan, and Logan, Jonathan E.  and Beth King and children Trinity, Trent, and Taylor.  He also had his 'extended family' of dear and close friends...Aaron & Ashley, Lori, Jon Michael, Jos, Brandon, Mandy, Terry & Luis, Tyler & Michael, Randy P., Nathan, Angeline...so many more. And last but not least: his bosom buddy Murphy. He called him his Puppy Love and they were constantly near each other, day and night...Murphy will probably watch the front door til his last day, waiting for Papa to come home.  Jerry's ashes will be interred at Guernsey Memory Gardens of Cambridge without formal ceremony, per his request.  A Remembrance Gathering will be organized and announced following the lifting of the Covid-19 Social Distancing guidelines.    Anyone wishing to honor his memory via donation can do so, in his name, to The Human Rights Campaign To share a memory of Jerry or to offer a message of condolence to the family, please visit his tribute wall.
