James “Poe” Bell of Portsmouth, Ohio passed away peacefully at the age of 70, on May 1st , surrounded by family.
James was born in 1953, in Portsmouth, OH to the late Robert and Bernice Bell. He was born into a close family of six siblings and loved his nieces and nephews as though they were his own children.
James was very proud of his military career, serving in the Army’s 101st Airborne division as an Aircraft Mechanic. He greatly enjoyed rock repelling, camping and motorcycles. His fondest memories included annual family camping adventures, making his infamous chili for family and friends (he refused to share the recipe) and caring for any stray animal he encountered…an admirable trait that he passed on to his daughter. He was very generous, kind-hearted and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
James is survived by his daughter, Jamie Newman; sister, Ellen Sexton; his closest nephew, Joshua Pelfrey; closest nieces, Mahala Pelfrey and Kim Boyd; and many other nieces/nephews and cousins.
James was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Bernice Bell; siblings, Edward Bell, Robert Bell, Betty Worstell and Mary Rice.
Private family services will be held.
