Howard "Howie" Maley, 80, of Deerfield, N.H., passed peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Marysville, Ohio, surrounded by love and family. Howie was born in Sidney, Neb., on Nov. 25, 1940, to the late Howard and Bernell Maley of Sidney, Neb., and was one of two children. An avid athlete, Howie graduated from Sidney High School as valedictorian and was offered a full scholarship as a "walk-on" by the University of Wyoming for baseball. There he met the love of his life, Sylvia (Field) Maley. They were married for 58 years. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Howie fulfilled his obligation through ROTC in the Army from 1964 to 1966 (Captain, Infantry). Howie and Sylvia settled in N.H. and had two sons, John and Jed Maley. They spent 48 years in Deerfield and Howie was instrumental in starting the Deerfield Little League in 1968, which he carefully shepherded for 17 years. Everyone knew the Maley's house in Deerfield, it was routinely a stop for anyone inclined at the end of the day to catch a few innings of the Red Sox and Old Home Day brought more traffic through that house than Grand Central Station. One Old Centre Rd was literally the place where the door was always open, and many came seeking solace, companionship, guidance, or just pure laughter that Howie was always able to deliver. Howie is survived by his wife, Sylvia Maley of Marysville, Ohio; his sister, Jenny Markel of Arvada, Colo., and her husband, Steve; his son, John Maley of Delaware, Ohio, and his wife, Carmen; his son, Jed Maley of New Boston, N.H., and his wife, Sara; his four beautiful grandchildren, Morgan Maley and Lydia Maley of Delaware, Ohio, and Camden Maley and Katryn Maley of New Boston, N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Donations honoring Howie's life can be made to Deerfield Parks & Recreation (parks@townofdeerfieldnh.com) or the Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org/
