Gregory Ward

Greg Ward, age 70, passed away Tuesday, April 12th in Columbus, Ohio. Greg was born in Anderson, Indiana and was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He attended Lahser High School and studied at the University of Michigan before going on to a career in audio engineering. Greg was a talented sound mixer and music producer. He was well known in the Detroit music community in the 1970s and 1980s. He worked with artists such as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh White, and many others. He was an engineer on the gold record album George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Uncle Jam Wants You. In the 1990s he took his talents to Columbus, Ohio to work as the senior audio engineer for SOS Productions, mixing and producing short-format films and videos and commercials. Later, he established his own business, working for many advertising agencies and musical ensembles. A passion of Greg’s was Aikido Yoshokai, a Japanese martial art. Greg was a 3rd degree black belt and the head instructor of Aikido Yoshokai Central Ohio for many years. Greg also served as the lead cycling instructor for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team-In-Training for several years. Greg was extremely kind and generous. He loved and was devoted to family, friends, music, Aikido, and his beloved cats Aiko and Shorty. Preceded in death by his parents Donald Lee Ward and Doris Jean (Nolan) Ward and sister Jennifer (William) Howell. Survived by brother Kevin Ward, sister-in-law Carolyn (Roualet) Ward, nephew Taylor (and Jamie) Ward, nieces Hayley Ward and Hannah Ward; nephew Andrew Meyer, niece Stephanie Meyer; grand nieces Anniston Ward and Kennedy Ward; and many, many friends. A Celebration of Life will take place in Columbus, Ohio in the spring of 2022. Memorial contributions can be made to Columbus Humane, 3015 Scioto-Darby Executive Court, Hilliard, Ohio, 43026, in Greg’s name.
