Frederick Carl Conrad

Frederick Carl "Skook" Conrad, Jr., 86, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He was born February 14, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, and was the son of the late Frederick Carl Conrad and Pauline Yanoshek Conrad. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald Paul “Buckshot” Conrad, Robert Elsworth “Bob” Conrad, Richard George "Dick" Conrad, and sister, Margaret Faith “Peggy” Conrad. Skook was in the Army in 1957-1960. He served in Germany at the same time as Elvis Presley. Skook was serving army chow one day when Elvis came through the line and insisted that “Private Conrad allow him to have TWO cartons of milk instead of one.” He was a sports fan. He liked baseball, golf, and horse racing. Skook was a catcher for a minor league baseball team who sometimes played in his home field at Liberty Park in Mansfield, Ohio. He also loved golfing with his brothers and friends. He was an avid spectator as well. Many who knew him also know he loved playing cards and gambling. He also liked to work crossword puzzles and sudoku, and he grew great beefsteak tomatoes. He is survived by his sisters, Sally Ann Maxwell of Canby, Oregon, and Linda Sue Eckert (Lester) of Delaware, Ohio. He is also survived by numerous beloved nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces: Kevin and Kim Conrad, Rocky and Stoney Conrad, Rob, Rick, Lori and Lainie Conrad, Scott and Natasha Maxwell, Mike and Melissa Eckert, and Cheyenne, Aerie, and Talon Lane. Skook’s family would like to thank Sherry Spellman and Jody White for their friendship and care over the years. His family will be holding a memorial in June the week of the June 25th. Sherry will be having a memorial at his last place of residence at a later time to be announced. Well wishers can make a donation to Hospice Services or the Ohio Heart Association.
