Elizabeth Ann LaRoma

April 1, 1955 — March 8, 2025

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” LaRoma (DeYoung), age 69, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Lancaster, Ohio, after a long courageous battle with ALS. Born on April 1, 1955, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Beth lived a life filled with warmth, creativity and compassion.

A graduate of Central High School, Beth went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in fashion and marketing from Western Michigan University. She began her professional journey in merchandising at JC Penney before transitioning into a long-term role as a lithography stripper at Illinois Envelope. Later in her career, she worked in shipping and receiving at Pfizer, where she eventually retired.

In 1991, Beth met Anthony “Tony” LaRoma when he poured concrete for her horse barn. Their connection was immediate and profound. Tony swept her off her feet and they married just six months later on September 21. Their loving partnership spanned 34 years and was filled with travel and shared adventures.

Beth had a deep love for animals, especially her horses and dogs. Her passion for horseback riding led her to volunteer at the Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center, where she helped children with special needs experience the healing power of riding. This work reflected her generous spirit and commitment to making a difference.

A devoted member of Twin Lakes Reformed Church, Beth sang in the choir and hosted an annual church cookout with Tony at their home in Delton, Michigan. These gatherings brought together friends and fellow congregants in joyful fellowship.

Beth expressed her creativity through baking—especially during the holidays—and enjoyed sharing her favorite recipes. Her stepdaughter Tonya fondly remembers baking and cooking with Beth during family gatherings and performing music together at church services.

One of Beth’s most cherished memories was singing at Carnegie Hall alongside her brother Steve—a treasured experience that reflected their shared love of music. She also found joy in painting ceramic holiday village houses, watching classic Westerns, swimming with family, and walking the dogs.

Beth is survived by her husband Anthony LaRoma; stepdaughters Tonya Mead (Robert) and Laura Cooper (Thomas); step-grandchildren Blake Vandenhout, Annie, Jacob, Justin, and Jessica Cooper; brothers Dave DeYoung (Elaine) and Phil DeYoung (Betty). She was preceded in death by her parents Harold Everette DeYoung and Reanetta Jane Klepper; and brother Stephen DeYoung.
