David C. Gehring (“the Hammer”) was 72 Years old when he peacefully passed away in his Home on September 05th, 2024 after a long hard battle of various illnesses.

He was born November 15th, 1951 in Columbus, OH to Clarold Huegely & Richard Gehring. David grew up in Columbus, and later moved to Marysville. After his father passed away, he was raised by his step-dad, John Huegely, whom David admired greatly. David’s sports growing up were basketball and track & field. He holds a track and field record still to this day at Marysville High School.

David had many professions, but he thoroughly enjoyed Truck Driving. He drove for various companies before starting his own company, Kajun-Hammer Express Inc. David enjoyed the open road for over 35 years. During his trucking career he earned multiple awards by participating at the FedEx Truck Driving Rodeo.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karoline, and his six kids; Faith (Chris), Mark (Jen), Nathan (Janet), Phillip (Nicki), Taylor (Travis) and his special daughter Natalie. As well as his sisters; Vicki Hammond, Sue Gehring (Terry), and Kathy Fannin (Dan), and his grandchildren: Tyler, Bolan, Wyatt and Ramona (Autumn, Landon & Stella).

David is preceded in death by his father, Richard Gehring, mother and step-dad, Clarold and John Huegely, sister Karen Fisher, brother Michael Gehring and his favorite grand-dog, Moonshine (Moony/Shiners).

David enjoyed spending time at and boating on Indian Lake. He was a snow skier and avid reader. He picked up Ubering as a hobby in retirement to keep himself on the road. David enjoyed having his morning coffee and cigarette on the front porch watching the sun rise and talking to all the neighbors. He was a big Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball fan; holding season tickets for both sports and making it to as many home games as he could. He loved his relationships with all his wife and kids, but Natalie held an extra special place in his heart.

David was known for being such a kind and caring man and father. He would do anything or make anything happen for each one of his children. He was known for being a generous and a giving person, making sure he helped out whomever he could. And finally, he was known to be proud of everyone. He made sure to catch up with his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends so he could call everyone and brag to them about how well everyone was doing.

David’s life celebration Service will be Friday September 13th, 2024 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church (UALC) 3500 Mill Run Dr. Columbus, OH at 4 pm with a reception to follow. The family asks that you bring your favorite stories to share.

The Gehring Family thanks you for your support and love during this time. David would be truly honored to see how many people have reached out to help care for his family.
