David C. Jewell, affectionately known as Dave, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on December 8, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, Dave was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many throughout his time on this earth.
Dave was a proud 1960 graduate of Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio, where he spent many hours fixing cars and drag racing with friend, Fuzz. He especially loved Chevys, with the 1957 Chevy being his all-time favorite. After high school, Dave worked for the family-owned and operated business, Jewell Motor Parts, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1961. Stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base near Columbus, Ohio (now known as Rickenbacher), Dave served his country with honor and dedication for four years.
It was during his time in the Air Force that Dave met his future wife, Barbara Black, through mutual friends. The couple married on February 27, 1965, and remained devoted to each other for 58 years. After completing his enlistment, Dave worked as a furnace and air conditioner installer for two years before joining Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co. (now known as AEP). He retired in 2002 after 35 years as a mechanic, repairing small to large company equipment.
Throughout his life, Dave was a devoted family man who enjoyed camping with his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Black Jewell; his son Todd Jewell and daughter-in-law Christi Jewell; his son Timothy Jewell; his sister Lynne Jewell Chaddon and her spouse Mark; his brother Keith Jewell and spouse Janice; his brother Kevin Jewell and spouse Karla; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Merwin and Audrey Jewell. He also leaves behind his cherished furbabies, dog Kylie and cat Teddi.
Dave's love for helping others led him to participate in short-term mission trips with his family, starting in 1983 with a trip to Haiti. He continued to take trips to Haiti as an assistant to Conn Drake, a dear friend. These experiences deepened his faith and commitment to serving others.
Being a member of Madison Christian Church in Groveport, Ohio, was an incredible privilege for Dave. He cherished the Christ-centered community and the friendships he made there. He was grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a loving and supportive church family.
Dave will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his passion for serving others. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he shared with those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A visitation will be held on June 19th, 2023 from 10 AM until time of Dave's Celebration of Life at 12PM noon at the Madison Christian Church, 3565 Bixby Road, Groveport, OH 43125. In lieu flowers, please donate to Madison Christian Church mission fund.
Rest in peace, Dave. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved you.
