Christopher Andrew Gable
01/05/71 – 02/06/22 Christopher Andrew Gable passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022, in Dayton, OH, after a long struggle with Substance Use Disorder. He was born in Wichita, KS to Phil and Cindy (Maysellis) Gable, both of Lancaster County, PA. Chris’s father, Phil, did voluntary service in Kansas through the Mennonite Central Committee, instead of fighting in the Vietnam War. After his service, the family returned to Lancaster, where Chris was joined 3 years later by his sister, Jennifer.

Chris graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1989; Ohio State (B.A. in Philosophy, ‘95); and later earned a Masters in Elementary Education with honors from Millersville State University.

He began teaching Middle School in Asheville, NC in 2004 and was a well-loved teacher who brought out the best in his students. He encouraged them to express themselves authentically, and several of them won honors in Slam Poetry Competitions. Chris studied martial arts and was keenly interested in physical fitness. As a Pennsylvanian, he was an avid Eagles fan. As a Buckeye, he was enthusiastic about OSU sports and also enjoyed hiking and communing with nature. He is survived by his mother Cindy Williams; sister Jennifer Heyman; brother David; 3 children: Mac 13, Mason and Ruby 10; and Heather Gable, the mother of his children.  He will be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Chris would have wanted donations made to a charity that supports children and youth in need. Since he loved Asheville, consider supporting the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth, and Families: https://www.blackmountainhome.org/. They have been in operation since 1922. According to Charity Navigator, they have the highest rating of Children's Charities in Greater Asheville.
