Cheryl Jean Shook

September 3, 1949 — January 16, 2021

On Saturday, January 16, 2021, Cheryl Jean Shook, loving and selfless mother of four children, passed to the Kingdom of God, at age 71. Cheryl was born September 3, 1949 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Gladys and Melvin Mueller. She was the third and youngest daughter, out of four children. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1967 and married the father of her 3 sons in 1969. Devout in her Christian faith, she spent many years immersed in scripture, and had a notable passion for reading and writing, in general. She led the Sunday School program at Good Shephard Church through the end of the 1970’s, and continued to encourage and discipline her own children in scholastic subjects for many years to come. She loved researching both in and out of the classroom, and continued to enrich herself by enrolling in courses at Southeast Business College and Ohio University-Lancaster throughout her adult life. Friends and family will remember her as being opinionated, but well-grounded in her convictions, and very quick to identify the true root of any problem. While Cheryl excelled at a variety of sales positions in her life, her most rewarding experiences came from partnering with family members and spearheading new business ventures. Her entrepreneurial spirit came to life in a Variety retail shop, a retail-resale consignment shop, and a vitamin store, among a host of home-based businesses. She enjoyed acting as a young adult and participated in a number of productions with the Lancaster Arts and Civics Club. Never short on humor, Cheryl also teamed up with her sister-in-law, Mary, to form a clown duo, bringing smiles and joy to children throughout the city with their colorful costumes and offbeat antics. Cheryl was a lifelong, enthusiastic Ohio State football fan, and never missed a season rooting for the Buckeyes. She enjoyed discussing current events and was often sought out for her advice, wisdom, and compassion as a trusted confidant to close friends and family. She brought joy to our world, shared with us tears of laughter, and sometimes wiped away our tears of pain. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed with cherished memories. She is survived by four children: William Bennett, Aaron Bennett, and Daniel Bennett, and Kelli Shook; daughter-in-law Hiuyin Ngan; and two granddaughters: Makenzie Bennett and Abigail Bennett. She is also survived by three siblings: Charlotte M. Murphy, Ruby F. Romine, and Carl H. Mueller; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30 at River of Life Church, located at 5090 Carnes Rd, Carroll, OH 43112, beginning at 2:00 pm. Pastor Ed Sharp will officiate the service.
