Carla Jean Gordon

February 17, 1957 — January 20, 2025

Columbus

It is with heavy hearts that we remember our beloved Carla Jean “Bean” Gordon, who left us on January 21, 2025. Carla was born on February 17, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, to Frank and Rose Gordon. She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Gordon Sr., and her son, Reginald Gordon.

Carla attended Columbus Public Schools and spent her childhood learning dance at the Jeanette Grinder Dance School. From a young age, Carla joined the church and was baptized under Rev. C.L. Lucas.

Carla was the oldest of six siblings—Frank Gordon, Jr., Michael Gordon, Gladys Gordon, Jenelle Gordon, and Carmen Higgins. She had four children: Tawain (Angel) Gordon, Reginald Gordon (deceased), Alan (Antoinette) Gordon, and Leon (Bryana) Ross. She loved her kids, and they were her heart.

She was also blessed with 17 grandchildren—Tawain Clayborn, Morgan Myles, Tawain Gordon, Paisley Durden-Mickens, Tamyah Baxter, Sincere Gordon, Serenity Gordon, Spencer Gordon, Jamarian Ross, Zion Thornton, Amaya Gordon, Camille Taylor, Jeremiah Smith-Gordon, India Miller, Toby Miller, Leighana Ross, and Kenton Ross, along with two great-grandchildren, Malia and Mallani Gordon, and a special friend Mustafa Beaty. She also had a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. She loved them all more than words could say, and they loved her just the same.

Known affectionately as “Bean” to those who loved her, Carla had a soul that could light up a room. She was the life of the party, the one you could always count on for love and support. Her family meant everything to her, and she made sure to stay connected, no matter what. She might have been a small lady, but her presence was mighty.

We will miss the way she laughed, the way she showed up for everyone, and the way she kept it real. Carla Jean Gordon may not be with us physically, but she’ll never be forgotten. Her legacy of love, loyalty, and strength will carry on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone who knew her.

The family of Carla Jean Gordon would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Pastor Roscoe D. Robey and the 7th Avenue Church family and for all acts of kindness, support and prayers shown to us during the passing of our loved one. May God continue to keep and bless each of you.

Rest in peace, Carla. You will always be remembered and forever loved.
