Bill Brook

February 18, 1932 — June 23, 2024

William “Bill” Hedley Brook, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on June 23rd, 2024 at 92 in Lancaster, OH.

Bill was born in Olean, NY to Hedley and Leona Brook. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. After the war he attended Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana earning a degree in electrical engineering. His first employment was with the NIPSCO company in northern Indiana. Bill and Jayne resided in Crown Point, Indiana during this time when Gretchen and Chris joined the family. Later, an opportunity at South Central Power led to relocation to Lancaster, Ohio which has been his residence ever since. His greatest passions throughout his life were family, church and golf. He never missed a school or athletic event for his grandchildren. Bill would make weekly visits to Christ Lutheran Children’s Center in Bexley to read books to the children and was referred to as “Grandpa Bill” by the kids. Bill and Jayne were long time members of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. He was a member of the choir for many years. Golf was a passion with his membership at Valley View lasting decades and making many lifetime friendships. He had multiple holes in one, shot his age several times and was an avid ball hunter. Friends and family never ran short of golf balls. In later years Bill became “The Mayor” of Primrose Retirement Community. Welcoming new residents, singing hymns in the chapel and spending happy hour on Fridays with friends in the pub. A perfect day was potato boats and root beer at Cristy’s, followed by the best chocolate ice cream at Nancy’s Scoops and a drive out to The View to check on the progress of the new winery and run into old friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Hedley and Leona Brook and wife Jayne Brook, siblings Tom Brook, Beverly Brook Stady, Ruth Brook Draear, and Dale Brook. Bill is survived by his brother John Brook.

Bill is survived by children Gretchen (Phill) Heckman and Chris (Amy) Brook and his grandchildren Meghan, Jake, Benjamin, and Andrew.
