Elizabeth “Betty” Cohee was born October,1928 in Versailles, Ohio and baptized at the Holy Family Church in Frenchtown, Ohio. She left us on Friday, January 8, 2021. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Jack Cohee. He left us way too soon and she was just waiting to be with him again. Theirs was a true love story. Mom said when he came home from WWII, he saw her in the kitchen of his mom’s house, said “Well what do we have here?” and went straight upstairs and told his mom that he was going to marry her! A consummate mother and homemaker, Mom was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing new recipes, many of which we all still use. Betty was a very talented artist. She would draw, paint, crochet, sew, and made many beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. Even in her later years, mom would crochet lap rugs and scarfs for the Covington Outreach program. Another favorite thing our mother loved to do was camp. Our childhood was filled with camping trips every summer and fall. She would take us for weeks at a time, with dad joining in some evenings and on weekends. Neighborhood childhood friends will also remember those summer days of her taking us all in the station wagon to the falls and watching over us while we swam in the river. “Scat Mrs. Cohee” was often heard on those trips and she would spin the tires in the gravel to give us a thrill…. Betty had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Teresa’s Church in Covington. And more recently receiving her blessings from St. Mary’s Church in Piqua. Over the years, she was very involved with the church and provided many craft items for the bazaar fundraisers. She was also a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Covington-Newberry Historical Society. Betty will be missed by her many friends, including the “Friday Night Ladies”, who she met with for dinner every Friday for many years. Betty is survived by her sister Wilma Lee (Boots) Davidson. Also her daughter Barbara (Richard) Young, son Michael (Ruth) Cohee, daughters Vickie (Michael) Norris and Bonnie (Wayne) Garber. She was predeceased by grandson Andy Garber and survived by grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) Weidner, Kendra (Scott) Toomey, Ben (Michelle) Garber, Shad (Karma) Wion, Terri (Jason) Waters, Katie Norris, Lezlie (Robert) Widegren and Megan (Rich) Norris-Mohler. She also had 19 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. The family will hold a memorial mass at St. Mary’s Church in Piqua at a date yet to be decided.
