Michael Alan Haislip, 64, of Galloway, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 30, 2024 at his residence. He graduated from Westland High School in Galloway and obtained an Electronics Engineering degree from DeVry followed by MCSE Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, CNA Certified Novell Administrator, Internetworking TCP/IP Certifications, Microsoft Proxy Server Certification and multiple other software, networking, server, and IT certifications. He recently retired from IT Consulting. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, building computers, collecting guns, and socializing with friends. When possible, he visited his favorite childhood place at Tygart Lake in Grafton, WV.
Mike was born on May 17, 1960 in Parkersburg, WV, and lived in Vienna, WV prior to moving to Columbus, OH. He is the son of the late W. Richard Haislip, Jr. from Bethel, and the late Sally Ann Haislip of Columbus. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Kevin Todd Haislip of Columbus.
The most joyful moment in Mike’s life was in 2000 with the birth of his cherished son, Liam Michael Haislip of Marysville. In addition to his son, he is survived by his beloved brother, R. Scott Haislip (Theresa Bosak) of Munster, IN and his nieces and nephews, Calvin, Spencer, Cooper, Caitlin, Sydney, and Reagan. He is also survived by his sister, Ginger Haislip of Lancaster, and nephew Bill Batten, Jr. Mike used to say when thinking about his son, nieces and nephews, “there wasn’t a bad apple in the bunch”. They brought him great joy.
Anyone who spoke to Mike for over five minutes became his friend. He never knew a stranger and his off the cuff sense of humor kept all in stitches. Once his friend, you were his friend for life. He is survived by lifelong, treasured friends Rob and Rhonda Connor and family of Columbus, Vicki Skordilis and family of Columbus, Steve Ward (Lucy Plahy) of Plain City, Terry Zihlman (Elaine) of Richlands, NC., Shae Burchett and son, Leo of Denver, CO., Kathie and John Wickle of Grove City, Judy Getz of Grove City, Debbie Lubell of Chattanooga, TN, Holly Martin of Grove City, and the infamous Friday morning breakfast gang. There are many others.
When talking to family about his friends, a huge smile would cross his face. They brought him great joy. He considered the love, kindness, loyalty, and honesty they gave to him during the good times and the bad times as a priceless gift, not to be taken for granted. Mike did not hold grudges for long, if ever, and always tried to see the best in family and friends.
Following cremation, a disposition of the ashes will be held privately by the family at a later date. Liam, Mike’s son, will be arranging a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date to accommodate all out-of-town friends and family. Mike’s final wishes were for all to make a favorite beverage, and, then, to drink a toast to the endearing memories that cherished friends and family had with him before parting. “Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.” ― Jack Thorne.
