Debra Ann Layton

Debra Ann Layton, age 68, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 in her home in Sunbury, Ohio after a battle with cancer.

Debra was born January 10, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio to Robert Milton Skeens and Dorothv Violet (Priest) Skeens. Debra graduated from Big Walnut High School, class of 1973. Following high school, she attended The Ohio State University and began a job in banking. She married her high school sweetheart. Larry Ray Layton, on April 6, 1974. Debra was a devoted member of The Sunbury United Methodist Church and the President of United Methodist Women, now known as United Women of Faith. She was also Director of Children's Ministries and adored her Sunday school class. Debra's passion was serving our community through ministry. She loved to cook and tend to her beautiful gardens. She loved her family and friends fiercely and showed it by celebrating every holiday and spreading joy. Her grandchildren were her biggest blessing.

Debra is survived by her husband Larry Ray Layton, daughters Angela (Layton) Buxton, Amber (Layton) Stein and her husband Ronald Stein, Amy (Layton) Whittington and her husband Jeffrey Whittington; eight grandchildren: Samantha Buxton, Victoria Buxton, Wyatt Buxton, Lindsey Stein, James Stein, Elise Whittington, Elijah Whittington and Adelyn Whittington; brothers, Scott Skeens and wife Deborah (Feazel) Skeens, Robert Skeens and wife Dawn (Weimer) Skeens, sister in law Deborah (Layton) Saunders and husband Gary Saunders; nieces and nephews Jennifer (Saunders) Lilly and spouse Kenneth Lilly, Amanda (Saunders) Lutz and spouse Brian Lutz, Eric Saunders and spouse Bree (Stites) Saunders, Zachary Skeens and Madeleine Skeens and many great nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 from 11:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. at The Sunbury United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 1:00p.m. in the church sanctuary. Debra wanted this to be a celebration, so feel free to wear colors that inspire joy. In lieu of flowers, Debra would love donations to a mission dear to her heart, The Midwest Distribution Center.
